A Brief History

SomCom is a privately family owned web, database and web application developer which has been operating in various forms for the last 25 years. 

Over the years the company has evolved from providing complex data conversion and structuring services for the publishing and printing industries to offer open source (licence free) custom technical web application and database solutions for any purpose or application. Our custom solutions are developed with specific use case and aligned to an organisations particular strategic or operational objective(s).

SomCom derives its abbreviated name from Somerset Computing, founded in 1986 by Dave Turner. Dave,  still a leading force at SomCom, has a background in converting data for the printing/typesetting industry, specialising in the more complex projects that publishers or their suppliers were unable to handle. Dave created a number of proprietary programs that organised and structured large sets of data, which still enables SomCom to be leaders in this field. Establishing SomCom as a limited company in 2001, the headquarters were moved to Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire providing design, development, sales and support functions.
